Manchester City confirmed their place in the FA Cup fourth round with a 7-0 demolition of Rotherham at the Etihad.
The Blues were three up at half-time and added a further four after the break with Phil Foden’s first goal at home the headline strike.
Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sané were also on target – along with an own goal – to ensure last season’s fifth-round defeat at Wigan was consigned to history.
City were bright at times but the score would have been in double figures had they been firing on all cylinders.
Gabriel Jesus’ was the most concerning in a lethargic showing at times, with the Brazil international missing a hat-trick of chances to confirm just how far ahead Sergio Aguero is in Pep Guardiola’s pecking order.
